Who don't know this legendary food? Surabaya people who study abroad or live in another country must know how it feels missing this food! Who can resist the power of its spicyness?

Penyetan is one of Indonesian traditional food that usually take place in a "warung" or "lesehan". Unlike its name, "Warung Bu Kris" doesn't seem like a "warung". It seems like "depot" and in this review, we will talk about one of their branches which is at Pengampon Surabaya. They actually have many branches in Surabaya, so it's quite easy to find it in all around Surabaya.

Their famous menus are "ayam (chicken) penyet" and "bakwan (meatball) penyet". "Ayam penyet" is Indonesian, or more precisely, East Javanese cuisine which consist of fried chicken that is smashed with the pestle against mortar to make it softer, served with "sambal", slices of cucumbers, fried tofu and tempe. What's so special in Warung Bu Kris are that the meat is soft and the "sambal" (chilli paste) is super delicious. "Sambal" is made from a mixture of chilli, anchovies, tomatoes, shallots, garlics, shrimp paste, tamarind and lime juice. Like its namesake, the mixture is then smashed into a paste to be eaten with the dish. For those who love spicy food, Warung Bu Kris is the best place to enjoy this East Java food with its delicious "sambal"! And for those who don't, you can also request a not spicy "sambal". Hahaha.

Not only delicious, but they also have affordable price. The place is also clean and big enough, but watch out! When the lunch time comes, it will seem so small because it will be full of people and (of course) you have to be patient to wait for your turn, but relax! They have a good queue system, so that people who come first will eat first! Yay, fair enough, right?
