If you’re planning to go to Surabaya, don’t forget to stop by to the “Sate Klopo (Coconut Satay) Ondomohen”, okay?

Unlike other culinary, “Sate Klopo Ondomohen” has no other depot in any other cities beside Surabaya.

So, if you want to try this Surabaya’s Signature Dish, you MUST visit Surabaya first! Hehehe :p

For it has become a legendary Surabaya Cuisine, “Sate Klopo Ondomohen Ibu Asih” is always crowded of visitors. There are even many photos of Ny. Asih with Indonesia's famous artists are displayed all around the wall. So, you have to be patient to queue when you want to eat there.

Generally, “Sate Klopo” is made of beef, then it will be mixed with grated coconut which has been given a special seasoning before being burned. However, in the “Sate Klopo Ondomohen Ibu Asih” depot, there are many variants of the satay’s basic ingredients, the satay can be made from chicken, ground beef, intestines, bone marrow, and also shrimp. Then the satay will be served with peanut seasoning, chili slices, and sliced red onions.

Peanut seasoning of “Sate Klopo Ondomohen” also tasted smoother and more savory. It is so suitable with the size of “Sate Klopo Ondomohen” which a little bit larger than the usual satay and its soft texture on the tongue when it is bitten. This Coconut Satay can be enjoyed with “lontong” or rice, plus a scattered “serundeng” which made from grated coconut. What a unique dish, isn’t it? ;)

"Sate Klopo Ondomohen Ibu Asih" Depot

“Sate Klopo Ondomohen” depot was founded by Ny. Asih. It’s not clear about when exactly the “Sate Klopo Ondomohen” was established. But we can assume that it is already existed since a long time ago, because the name “Ondomohen” came from the street’s name where the depot stands, “Ondomohen” Street. Few times ago, “Ondomohen” Street’s name was already replaced with “Walikota Mustajab” Street, but the depot’s name remains the same because that name was already embedded in the hearts of its customers.

ANDDD, the most important thing is, you don’t need to be worried about the price! One portion of the satay with rice or “lontong” is not expensive at all, it’s still under 20.000 rupiah each! Let’s go get one, LOCALEans!
